Children's Christian Formation

All classes for children 3 years through 10th grade take place on the 3rd floor from 10:00am to 10:45am.
We take Christian Formation for children seriously, but have fun doing it.  Our Sunday school classes begin with 3 year olds using the Godly Play curriculum.  What is Godly Play? Godly Play is a Montessori based curriculum that engages children in learning through storytelling, ritual, and hands-on activities.  Classes follow the shape of the Eucharist: Hear a story, respond through art or activity of choice, pray and feast together by enjoying a snack, and then dismissed to parents. Children learn and engage in stories of the Old and New Testaments while also learning how to listen, how to treat sacred space, how to treat one another, and how to begin to be self-directed.  Children come into the presence of the mystery of God during class by hearing God’s stories, responding to the story out of love in the following ways: verbally during wondering time after the story, working with the story objects, and by creating individual works of art.

As students progress through the Godly Play Curriculum they begin with the Creation story all the way through the story of Jonah.  They get hands-on experience with the church calendar and get an in-depth look at Advent, Christmas, Epiphany, Easter, and Pentecost.  In addition, all ages get exposure to parables, stories about the Holy Family, and baptism.  As children progress through the classes, they learn more about individual people of the bible from Abraham and Sarah to Paul, learn more about the Holy Eucharist, and gain exposure to the Saints.

Children's Chapel
In the 9 am service, children follow the cross out during the Gloria to the carpeted children's corner outside the nursery for a bible story before returning the church.  Parents are welcome to attend. Children in the nursery are welcome to join us with a parent.

Communion Class
Kindergarten- 4th grade children are invited to learn more about the communion service.  We'll review the parts of the service, the meaning behind why we do what we do, and learn about vestments and what goes on in the working sacristy. We'll conclude our class by painting our chalice to be blessed by the Bishop when he visits. This class is offered annually leading up to the Bishop's visit.  Please get in touch with Becky Moseman for more information and to sign up. bmoseman@trinitytulsa.org

Church Down Under (CDU)
Is it worship? Is it formation? Yes. CDU is a hands-on, interactive family service. It is the full eucharist but a little loud and messy.  Each part of the eucharist is there but looks a little different. The congregants write prayers for the people as they come into the church. Confession is represented by a stone and the heavy things weighing on our hearts that are washed with water and renewing us with a blessing. The children reflect after the short sermon to process and connect the dots through a craft or activity linked to the gospel reading.

Young Families Parents Group
This casual group connects through GroupMe with special activities, events, curriculum, and parent night-out meetups. Meetups range from a book discussion to just dinner with church friends.

Classes for 6th to 12th graders run September-May.  Classes will take place on the 3rd floor. All classes are from 10:00 am to 10:45 am.

The Journey to Adulthood program's underlying theme is that adulthood is earned or learned.  We form a safe community where they can explore spirituality, society, self, and sexuality through the context of scripture, reason, and tradition of the Episcopal Church.  These groups meet on Sunday mornings and a couple of times a month outside of church for activities, service projects, and more.
